Since the national expansion of GSK Science in the Summer of 2015, Sci-Port has worked with 8 different Community Partners and served over 5,443 underprivileged youth (grades 2nd - 6th) including homeless, migrant, and foster children.
GSK Science in the Summer™ is a fun and free science education program sponsored by GSK, in partnership with The Franklin Institute. Sci-Port Discovery Center implements this curriculum with our Community Partners: Bossier BLAST, Plant a Seed in our Youth Foundation, Bernstein Development, Inc., VOA-Lighthouse, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Caddo Parish Homeless Education Enhancement Program, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Pines.
Provided Boe-Bots to Huntington High School, which went on with the help of Dr. Chester Wilson from Louisiana Tech University to win in the statewide Regional Autonomous Robotics Competition (RARC), a project of NICERC.
Funding from the Louisiana Environmental Education Commission to hold a teacher Professional Development Workshop on watershed stewardship.
The fourth-annual Shreveport-Bossier Mini Maker Faire was held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Agricultural Building at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds, 3701 Hudson Avenue in Shreveport.
The "STEM Lab Collaborations" Project was funded by the Beaird Family Foundation for Sci-Port to improve STEM content knowledge and interest in STEM college/career pathways. Served > 6,000 students & teachers.
Thanks to Lyda Hill Philanthropies, ASTC, NGCP and LaSTEM Initiative, visitors at Sci-Port Discovery Center will see images of diverse WOMEN IN STEM throughout the center. Sci-Port is thrilled to announce our partnership with the @allofusresearch program! Four Title I schools in Caddo Parish are being recruited to participate in "Health Science Careers" outreach by Sci-Port Discovery Center. Up to 560 high school students in Caddo Parish will be exposed to health science careers and will participate in hands-on laboratory experiences.
Supported by the Franklin Institute and the National Girls Collaborative Project. State Leaders from Sci-Port, Green & Gold Library System, STARBASE, and Knock Knock Children's Museum will train 60 educators throughout the state with "light and shadows" curriculum & kits.
